It is rare to find bowls of this decoration, a motif of sanduo or the ‘three abundances’ painted in copper-red with a Kangxi reign mark and of the period. A similar piece was sold in Christie’s Hong Kong rooms, 22nd May 1984, lot 126. More common are those made during the Yongzheng period; for example see a Yongzheng bowl of this pattern illustrated in Sekai toji zenshu, vol. 12, Tokyo, 1956, pl. 60 top; another, from the Herridge collection, sold in Christie’s Hong Kong rooms, 20th May 1987, lot 469; and a third example sold in Christie’s New York rooms, 29th November 1988, lot 211.
